Perhaps the most significant step taken was bringing back last years temporary coaching staff, including hitting coach Dave Hansen, who was able to help create a dramatic reversal in Dodger run production. This should add stability to the team throughout the 2012 season. The Dodgers let 3rd baseman Casey Blake go as well as starting pitch Jon Garland. These players will be missed when I use my Dodger tickets to see them play. They also lost several players to free agency, but most of them were utility or bench players.

Their signings during the off season have mostly been to shore up the bench. However, second baseman Mark Ellis was a notable exception. He was signed to a two year contract and looks to be the starter for the Dodgers. Juan Uribe looks to get more playing time at third base with Casey gone. Utility player Jerry Hairston was signed to help with that position.

Although the starting line up is close to being set in place, Manager Don Mattingly is giving rookie outfielder and first baseman Jerry Sands a long look. He has shown a lot of power in the minor leagues hitting 64 home runs in the last three seasons he has played. The problem is that he needs to play everyday, and the Dodgers have a lot of talent at his position. Ethier, Kemp and Rivera are strong hitters, and Loney is playing first. There is no full time position for Sands. It would of been nice to see fresh blood on the field when I used my Dodgers tickets to see a game.

At this point in pre-season the pitching staff seems to be already set. In fact, at the time of this writing there was only one spot left in the bullpen and several men were competing for it. Jamey Wright seems to be the leading contender having started in place of Lilly on the 21st and pitched two perfect innings.

The five man rotation is rounding into form, Kershaw, Billingsley, and Lilly are looking good. Ted Lilly made his last start in the minors as he gets back into form. Aaron Harang and Chris Capuano will round out the fourth and fifth starting spots.

Looking at the roster changes for 2012, there doesn’t seem to be a great change. Although the Dodgers look weak at third base, they have plenty of defense along with hitting power. If they stay healthy, it will come down to how well their pitching staff performs throughout the entire season. Their top three pitchers look strong, and Harang may be sitting on a good season. All in all, games should be pretty exciting with this well rounded team. Make sure you buy your Dodger tickets early, so that you don’t miss your chance to see a game.

The Dodgers many be able to improve off last year’s record, and in what is usually a weak division, they might be able to make the playoffs by winning their division. However, on paper, they look to have an 84 to 87 win season and this may not be enough to earn a playoff spot.

After finishing their series with archrival Colorado May 1 and 2, the Dodgers conclude a six-game road trip against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field from May 4 through 6.  The Los Angeles Dodgers have an excellent opportunity to make some noise in the NL West in 2012 during the rest of May, as they have 18 of their next 23 games at home.  With so many games at home, you can expect to find some cheap Dodger tickets on our website. This stretch leads off with eight games against division rivals, as the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies come into Dodger Stadium for three games each, followed by defending NL West Champion Arizona Diamondbacks for two games on May 14 and 15.

The Dodgers will have a short 2-game series in San Diego against the Padres, followed by a return trip home to take on the defending World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals for three games. The month of June may be tougher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, as they begin a 10-game road trip to Colorado to take on the Rockies, to Philadelphia for four games against the Phillies, and to Seattle to take on the Mariners to begin Interleague Play in 2012.  The Los Angeles Dodgers will return home to take on intracity rival Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from the American League from June 11 to 13, followed by a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox, now managed by former All-Star 3B Robin Ventura.

The Dodgers will conclude 2012 Interleague Play with three games at the Oakland Athletics, followed by three more games at Anaheim to take on the Angels. With the Angels adding Albert Pujols to their roster, I am sure seeing this superstar will make for an exciting game. The Dodgers begin the month of July with the final game of the four-game series against the Mets on Sunday, July 1, then host the Cincinnati Reds for three games from July 2 through July 4.  The Dodgers then have would could be a critical four-game series with archrival Arizona in Phoenix from July 5 through 8.  The Dodgers are then off from July 9 through 12 for the All-Star Break, with the 83rd annual All-Star game being played on Tuesday, July 10 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

When the Dodgers resume play on Friday, July 13, it will be at home against archrival San Diego for three games, followed by a three-game series at home against the Phillies. The Phillies have grown to be one of the tougher opponents for the Dodgers, buy your Dodger tickets now to support the team to victory. The Dodgers will then face another tough test, as they go on the road for a 10-game stretch between July 20 to July 29, with three games in New York, four games in St. Louis, and three games in San Francisco.  The Los Angeles Dodgers finish up the month of July with games on July 30 and 31 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After the Dodgers finish up their three-game series against archrival Arizona on Wednesday, August 1, the Los Angeles Dodgers will play three games against the Cubs and three games against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium from August 3 through August 8.  The Dodgers will then face their third road trip of at least ten games on the season, beginning with a three-game series against the newly-named Miami Marlins and new manager Ozzie Guillen August 10 through 12.  The Dodgers will then have four games in Pittsburgh against the Pirates and three more against the Braves in Atlanta.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ schedule projects to be a bit easier to end August, as eight of their final eleven games are at home.  The San Francisco Giants come to Dodger Stadium for three games between August 20 and 22, followed by the Miami Marlins paying a visit to Dodger Stadium from August 24 through 26.  After a short three-game stint in Colorado taking on the NL West rival Rockies, the Dodgers host the Diamondbacks on August 30 and 31 to close out the month of August.

After playing two more games with the Arizona Diamondbacks on September 1 and 2, the Los Angeles Dodgers will play three more games with NL West rival San Diego Padres September 3 through 5.  The Dodgers head back on the road to take on two more NL West rivals, the Giants for three games and the D-Backs for two games, between September 7 through 12.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will host the Cardinals for four games, then head out for the final nine road games of 2012, heading to Washington D.C. to take on the Nationals, to Cincinnati to take on the Reds, and to San Diego to take on the archrival Padres.  The Dodgers finish up the 2012 schedule at home against the archrival Colorado Rockies from September 28 through September 30.

Looking at the Dodgers’ 2012 MLB schedule, the Dodgers have some extended periods where they are at home and other extended periods where they are on the road.  One crucial home stretch that could really influence the Dodgers’ 2012 playoff chances include the 18 home games in May, including a stretch of 18 games out of 23 games at home. A crucial road stretch would likely be the nine-game stretch on the road in September, with six games against NL East teams (Washington and Atlanta) and three games against an NL West rival (San Diego).

Early indications seem to suggest that defending NL West Champion Arizona could be stronger than it was in 2011 when it won 94 games.  The Giants, coming off a bit of a disappointing season after winning the World Series in 2010, are expected to have star catcher Buster Posey back after a gruesome collision in late May knocked him out for the rest of the 2011 season, which could help them return closer to their 2010 World Series form.  The Padres and Rockies are both expected to not be strong contenders, as San Diego has lost some of their premium talent over the past few seasons (1B Adrian Gonzalez and RP Heath Bell), while the Rockies are signaling a period of rebuilding from within after trading ace RHP Ubaldo Jimenez to the Cleveland Indians in July 2011 for a package of four prospects, headlined by LHP Drew Pomeranz and RHP Alex White.

For the Los Angeles Dodgers to really contend in 2012, they must get off to a fast start during the first two months of their schedule, as they have many home games in April and May, but only nine home games in June, with six of those against AL teams (Angels and White Sox).  They will need strong performances again from 2011 breakout performers OF Matt Kemp and LHP Clayton Kershaw to really make a push to dethrone Arizona and hold San Francisco at bay.  If they can get off to a fast start in the early part of their schedule and continue the positive momentum they gained in the latter part of the 2011 schedule, the Los Angeles Dodgers could make a solid to strong run for the postseason in 2012.

Between 2003 and 2005, the Dodgers Stadium was upgraded with LED video displays and the main display measured 27 feet height by 47 feet width. The Dodgers Stadium underwent a major seat renovation after the season in 2005.  All the seats were replaced with the original seat colors of yellow, light orange, turquoise and sky blue.  In 2008 a major expansion project of $500 million was undertaken.  A museum, shops and restaurants were added around the stadium.  The Dodger Way was a tree lined entrance leading to a landscaped plaza.  The Green Necklace was a beautiful walkway around the perimeter of the stadium.  The Top of the Park was connected by the Green Necklace to a large outdoor plaza offering a panoramic 360 degree view.   The Dodgers Stadium offered several innovative design features.  It had a covered, screened section of dough out level seats behind the home plate.  Two of the stadium’s distinguished features are the wavy style rooftops on the outfield pavilion and on top of a ten story elevator shaft, which bears the Dodger logo.  The Dodgers Stadium had a unique terrace styled parking lot, built behind the main stands, which allowed the ticket holder to park almost at the level of his seat.  The strobe lights which were installed in 1999, flashed when the Dodgers took to the field, after they scored a home run or after a win.  The Dodgers spend significant amounts on the stadium upkeep.  It is repainted every year and a whole host of gardeners maintain the site.

The Dodgers Stadium has earned the reputation of being a pitcher’s park.  It has relatively deep outfield dimensions and the power alleys were 380 feet.  In 1969, the Home Plate was moved 10 feet towards the center which also expanded foul ground by 10 feet, a trade off, which helped in scoring home runs, due to decreased field dimensions.  In 1969, the pitcher’s mound was reduced due to new MLB rules.

The Dodgers Stadium is steeped in history.  The Dodgers won the finals of the 1963 World Series played here.  In 1988 the Dodgers won Game 7 of the National League Championship Series.  The stadium has witnessed many no hitter games.  In 1962, the foul poles were discovered to be entirely in foul territory and the National League permitted it for the 1962 season.  Thereafter the home plate had to be moved to conform to the rules.

The winning ways of the Dodgers started early.  They were finalists in the 1916 & 1920 World Series finals, but lost.  In 1941 they captured their third National League pennant, but lost to the Yankee.  This triggered off one of the biggest rivalries and the Yankees – Dodgers rivalry forms the stuff of legends.  The Dodgers made history by inducting into their ranks the first black MLB player, Jackie Robinson.  The Dodgers captured their first World Series title in 1955 by defeating the Yankees, giving them all the more reason to celebrate.  In the sixties, Koufax and Drysdale dominated with their pitching and helped the Dodgers to capture three pennants.  They won two more World Series Titles in 1963 & 1965, defeating the Yankees and Minnesota Twins.  This was their second victory against arch rivals Yankees and the first since the move to Los Angeles.  Though they won pennants in 74, 77 and 78, they lost in each World Series appearance.  Helped by pitching sensation Valenzuela the Dodgers won the World Series in 1981.  In 1988, another sensational pitcher, Hershiser, led them to a World Series triumph.  The injured Gibson’s home run is etched in gold in hearts of Dodger fans.  The Dodgers thrive in rivalry and have another rival in the San Francisco Giants and this is the oldest rivalry in baseball.  The Dodgers, along with Giants and St. Louis Cardinals have made the maximum World Series appearances at 18.  They are tied with Giants for the maximum number of world Series titles won at 6.

The Dodgers were in the forefront of integration of professional sports in US.  Their farsighted General Manager, Branch Rickey, was instrumental in hiring the highly talented black player Jackie Robinson. It was a momentous event in US sports history.  Robinson was one of the star players of the Dodgers for many years.

In 1950, Walter O’Malley acquired the Dodgers and though he initially tried to buy land in Brooklyn for the Dodgers ballpark, he was not successful.  In the fifties, O’Malley successfully negotiated with Los Angeles city officials for relocating the team to LA and to build a ballpark there, provided he was given suitable land and the rest is history.  The Dodgers stadium located in Chavez Ravine is the largest ballpark, by seating capacity, in US.   They played their first game as Los Angeles Dodgers on April 18, 1958.
